Curating Cozy Spaces
In the age of covid, many of us are spending more time at home than ever before. And a lot of us are realizing the value in curating cozy spaces. Today I'm sharing a peek inside the room I love most in our home: my closet! I get into all the vibes and details of my closet and share ideas for curating your own sacred, cozy space.

Today’s episode topic is a listener request from Zan Farrow, a fellow podcaster, high vibe expert, interior design pro, and one of my coaching clients. Zan asked for the inside scoop on my closet and crystal collection.
Another listener, Heidi, also emailed me recently and said, “I would love to know more about how you set up your closet to feel so spa-like. Our closet is the only place I can imagine not hearing our kiddo right now.”
I always love when you send in episode requests and I’m really glad you all enjoy my closet as much as I do. It’s a vibe!
What Is Cozy? A Journey Through My Spaces
Cozy is: giving a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation
Living alone helped me cultivate a sense of cozy in my spaces. In college as an RA at UNLV, then in my first apartment out of college in San Francisco, and when I moved across the country to Raleigh.
My decor has always been minimal with a sense of warmth, comfort, and ease.

4 Books for Cozy Design Inspiration
Style Statement by Carrie McCarthy & Danielle LaPorte
A beautiful book with a lot of journal prompts and exercises that lead to creating your own “style statement.” When I worked through this book in 2012, my style statement was comfortable boldness.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo
This book really aligns with my nature. Reading it gave me permission to let go of mental and physical “stuff” that was no longer bringing me joy. Click here for a peek inside my 2015 closet decluttering process.
Also, have you watched Marie Kondo’s show on Netflix? It would be a fun one to catch up on right now!

The subtitle is: Secrets for Arranging Rooms, from Tabletops to Bookshelves. Such a fun and inspiring decor book with a magazine-style quiz that I loved. My design style is “Zen” which suits me perfectly.

I enjoyed the inspiring quotes & cozy stories from Erin’s life. My biggest takeaway was to embrace clear surfaces! I used to keep all sorts of products in a tray on my bathroom counter, but this book makes a strong case for leaving open space in our lives.

All About My Closet
My closet has its own hashtag: #insidekaileenscloset
Up high, there’s storage for out of season clothing and kids’ books. Opaque storage bins give a cleaner look. I use this for clothes and these for books.
Almost all of my clothes are on hangers because I don’t have a dresser. I upgraded to these wooden hangers from Target and love them. (I also really like the simplicity of these black metal hangers.) I hang my jeans on black metal s-hooks. The exact ones I have are out of stock (here’s something similar). My scarves and belts hang on this minimal organizer.
I have a white Ikea stool that functions as a mini drop zone, but I also use it for getting up to the highest shelf. My stool is out of stock, but this one is super cute.
I exercise in my closet! It’s the only space in my home where I really feel alone. Fave movement practice right now: Lauren Roxburgh’s Aligned Life Studio
I meditate, pull cards, take client calls, record the podcast, etc. in my closet. I am usually sitting on my meditation cushion. It’s the Velvet Blush Round Cushion from SAMAYA. I love it!
My disco ball is one of my favorite things in my closet. This is the one I have.
I keep most of my crystals in my closet, but I’ve been moving some throughout the house. I get them from Illuminate Your Vibe usually, definitely my favorite shop. Listen to the episode of That’s Pretty Woo all about crystals here.
My rug from Jungalow is their Gold Printed Mat. It is perfection.
4 Ideas for Curating a Space of Your Own
Pick one space. It can be any space: your desk, closet, nightstand, bookshelf
Gather inspiration. When you’re curating a space of your own, look for what inspires you in books, magazines, Pinterest, and Instagram.
Think about the feelings you want from being in that space. We can crave different feelings (and mods) from different spaces, so let that guide you.
Appreciate the space. No matter how small, dark, or challenging. The more I give love to my closet, the more it loves me back. The same will be true for you.
