Finding Unexpected Alignment in Everyday Mishaps
From chirping smoke detectors and a lice scare to a fancy dinner that lasted way too long, I’m sharing how to see unexpected curveballs in a new light. Instead of spiraling, you can be open to the possibility that the universe might have your back. Tune in for stories, insights, and gentle reminders that things aren’t always what they seem… and that’s a good thing!
I’m here today to share a lesson I’ve learned many times: when life doesn’t go as planned, it might just be going how it should. It’s easy to get caught up in the right and wrong of things, but sometimes, you can find flow in what is.
Lately, I’ve noticed a recurring theme of small frustrations that turn into unexpected blessings. I’m sharing a few of those stories to remind you and me both that the universe really does have our backs, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
Smoke Signals to Slow Down?
Let’s start with the story of the smoke detectors. I woke up ready to record two podcast episodes, aiming to get ahead for the month. But my plans were quickly derailed by the incessant chirping of a smoke detector. It’s one of those noises you simply cannot ignore! The chirping continued after we replaced the batteries, which led me to discover that the entire system needed to be replaced.
In case you didn’t know, smoke detectors typically last 8-10 years and continuous triple-chirp could mean it’s time to replace them. Our electrician was able to make an emergency house call by the afternoon, which was a great relief! Once everything was fixed, I found myself in an empty and peaceful house, with just enough time to record this episode.
Lice Panic to Trusting the Universe
When I received notes from my kids’ school about lice cases in their classrooms, I dutifully checked their heads daily. One afternoon, I found little black specks in my daughter’s hair. I was overcome by an immediate panic mode: I called a professional lice removal service, bagged up all the stuffed animals, stripped the beds, and started loads of laundry.
When the lice specialist arrived, we learned that my daughter’s “lice” were just dirt from the sandbox. But each child’s head did have a single lice egg, called a nit. It was a super minor case, but the process felt overwhelming.
The next day, while working from my favorite coffee shop, I remembered that I needed to ask our nanny to vacuum our 3-year-old’s car seat before he got in, which is part of the lice prevention protocol. As it turned out, he had already insisted on vacuuming his seat because of leftover goldfish crumbs! This little moment of serendipity reminded me that sometimes, life takes care of itself without me having to do anything at all.
A Fancy Dinner Gone Long
Recently, I went out for a fancy dinner with friends. Everything was wonderful until our meal took much longer than expected. It could’ve been a total bummer, but we decided to let it be what it was: an imperfect, but still very lovely evening.
The surprising twist? After my friend shared honest feedback with the restaurant, the manager responded with a heartfelt apology and invitation for us to return with a generous credit towards our future dinner. What started as a “bad” dining experience turned into plans for another fun night out with friends. Sometimes, it just takes a little time for things to turn around.
Embracing the “Less Than Ideal” Moments
Life is full of moments when something feels “off,” or things just don’t work out how we expect. It’s easy to feel defeated or frustrated, but what if you could view these hiccups as signs that something even better is on the way?
The key is to hold onto the belief that even when things feel messy or wrong, they might be happening for us, not to us. It’s a practice of trusting the process and being open to silver linings showing up.
Sometimes, it’s a quiet moment when you least expect it, realizing that a problem wasn’t as big as it seemed, or a kind gesture from someone that turns your day around.
Look Back for Your Signs of Support
I encourage you to look back at your week, month, or year. Are there moments when something felt “wrong” at first, but turned out better than expected? Or maybe there was a tiny sign that reminded you everything was okay, even if it didn’t seem like it at the moment.
Try Keeping an Appreciation List
If you’re feeling inspired, consider keeping a running list of these moments in your phone’s notes app. Add a few things you appreciate or love: the color of the sunset, the texture of a blanket, or even the taste of your morning coffee. Focusing on small signs of appreciation will shift your mindset from stress to gratitude.
Always Come Back to Your Inner Wisdom
As we head into November, I’m leaning into this energy of trust and flow. If you’re craving more connection to your intuition, consider exploring my Daily Intuition Practices course or the Autumn of Ritual bundle—both designed to help you feel more aligned with yourself and the season. And if you’d like more one-on-one support, I have a few openings for private sessions to help you receive wisdom from within.
Release Perfection and Receive Unexpected Alignment
Wherever you are right now, remember this: you don’t always have to do everything perfectly. You don’t have to hold everything together. Sometimes, the universe really does have your back, and all you need to do is let it.
