Curious about intentions? I’m explaining what intentions are, why they’re helpful, and 4 steps to follow when setting them. Learn about my process and how I apply intentions to my life. If you’re new to setting intentions or a seasoned pro, you’ll find inspiration and ideas in this conversation.

What are intentions? And why do we set them?

Setting intentions is a practice of gathering a word (or group of words) that act as an anchor back to yourself and what you want. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. Intentions are a conversation you get to have with yourself.

Your intentions can be simple and direct, like breathe, flow, let go. Sometimes (or for some people) they can be big and wordy. (Click to learn about setting intentions with the moon cycle.)

Setting intentions is a supportive practice for me when I’m feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Coming back to my intentions always feels like coming home.

Set your intentions in 4 steps:

Play with the practice of setting intentions and see what works for you. Remember, there are no rules! You get to decide what works best for you. Here are a few ideas to try:

  1. Get centered and still. You can be anywhere. Take a few deep breaths. Really focus on the exhale.

  2. Ask, “What do I need?” Listen to the quiet wisdom within. See what comes to you. Follow up with the question, “What intentions would support me?”

  3. Write down your intentions. You can write them anywhere. I love putting mine in my closet or sharing on Instagram #kaileeneliseintentions.

  4. Check-in, release + receive. There’s no prescription for how long to hold an intention. Checking in will help you realize if an intention is still serving you or if it’s time to release it. Open your energy to receive your intention. Things flow much better when we release our grip.

Peek inside my intentions for Season 2

I tuned in to my inner voice for my intention for Season 2 of Celebrate Cultivate and this is what flowed,

Follow the breadcrumbs. Each step guiding towards the next. Trust and delight in the journey. Play in the process. Invite alchemy and magic with open arms. Smile and enjoy the unfolding. Celebrate the joy. Cultivate what feels good.

I’m planning to read this intention before every interview as a way to connect with myself throughout the season. I looked up the definition of alchemy and it is, “a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.”

That is so perfect! There’s magic and transformation in conversation. By bringing people onto the show, I’m inviting them into the space that we’ve created together. There is more love, magic, creativity, and joy in sharing. That feels really good for this season of life… and season of the podcast!

What intentions are you setting?
