Amber Burns is the editor and creative force behind By Amber Burns and she’s the host of an amazing called Thank You For Asking. When she isn’t blogging, podcasting, or posting to Instagram about books, travel and lifestyle tips, she is a speaker, fiction writer and works full time as a digital marketer.

On her 13th birthday, Amber asked her parents to buy her first domain name. She’s been creating content on the internet ever since. What started as a side hustle making Myspace layouts has evolved into an engaged online community with women at the center.

Authenticity in Creativity and Community

I’m so excited to share this conversation! I’ve been following Amber on Instagram for a while and love her new podcast, Thank You for Asking.

The way she shares, creates, and shows up online is so inspiring because it’s the perfect mix of real and honest, while also keeping things pretty upbeat. This is something I’ve really started to appreciate, especially in light of all that’s happened in the past year.

How Do You Do It All?

Amber has a range of creative interests and pursuits, which is something I’m always impressed by! When I asked her how she does it all, she shared some insights on how maybe we’re all just making things up as we go along. As much as I’m tempted to know the secret to one person’s success, I truly agree with what she shared about doing your best!

Amber also shared that this past year (plus) has shifted her perspective on flexibility and planning. Now her plans are typically monthly and quarterly vs. planning really far in advance.

On Intuition and Creativity

Being in alignment with intuition is important to Amber in her creative pursuits. She deepened her connection to her inner voice through college. I loved how she shared that her inner voice always sounds like her grandmother, which is comforting even when it doesn’t make sense to the mind.

On Self-Care, Mental Health, Anxiety and Intuition

Amber shares a lot about journaling, self-care, and her mental health journey. Her passion for sharing honest and authentic conversations around these topics is truly inspiring.

As Amber says, “wellness should not be a privilege, it should be available to everyone.” Implementing wellness practices and being intentional about scheduling are two ways Amber maintains her mental health.

I love what Amber shared about her low-stakes journal practice. She makes it sound so accessible and achievable. Pull out your journal, write a few words down, and then more if you can. And if you’re looking for journal inspiration, follow Amber on Instagram!

When we talked about the difference between anxiety and intuition, our conversation turned to how these voices feel. Intuition feels calm, confident, and certain to Amber. Her anxiety pulls her in different directions and makes her keep second guessing herself.

Cultivating Good Habits for the Next Generation

When I asked Amber what she’s cultivating, she said she is working on creating things for the next generation to look forward to and my heart just melted. Such a good idea. What does that look like for you? Something to consider for sure!

Creating Space for Yourself

Amber shared about how she’s creating space for herself in her bedroom. I’m sure she will share more on Instagram and all her creative outlets soon! Be sure to give her a follow on Instagram, @byamberburns, listen to her podcast Thank You For Asking, and check her out on YouTube.
