What is The Heart Story?
The Heart Story is a memory or a moment that makes you feel like, “We need more of this in the world.” Emma shares about how a conversation with her friend Emmily Jones from Gatherist led to creating method for herself… and then eventually her clients.

Emma and I talked about finding inspiration and how inspiration can find you. We both agree there’s no right way to get there. One of the common questions Emma’s clients ask is,”What happens if I’m second-guessing my heart story?”
Emma shared her approach to uncertainty like this. She prompts her clients to ask their subconscious mind to share memories and visuals. Friends, don’t you think this sounds a lot like inner voice work?
Emma sees The Heart Story as a text, which comes from her education in literature and creative writing. She uses it as an anchor to help her create, communicate, and stay in her flow.
Create and Stay Awhile
Our conversation about The Heart Story led to this idea of creating and staying awhile. As Emma explained, sometimes when you make something totally in flow, you don’t always fully understand why it works.
We talked about Instagram, The Social Dilemma on Netflix, and how we’re sometimes tricked into thinking these tools are the solution when they are really just ways to get our message out.
There are a ton of resources and ways to get your message out, from branding and copywriting to paid ads and the perfect aesthetic. Emma shares how getting super clear in your message is the place to start.
On Rituals and Rhythms
One of Emma’s goals is to help people remove barriers so they can show up fully. She explained that if she’s working from a depleted, tired, or uncertain place, that’s going to show up in her coaching.
She’s established rituals and rhythms to help her stay centered in her purpose. Here are a few of her favorites.
Journaling every morning to clear out limiting beliefs. Part of her journaling process is to ask God what “next-level Emma” looks like.
Paying attention to when her energy is still moving outward after a client call and spending time washing the energy of love back onto her.
Setting up Echo Dot / Alexa routines to guide her rituals for nighttime + morning. Genius!
Why Are We Looking Outward for Answers?
Emma shares about a personal realization she’s had about personality tests and how they can’t pin her down. It is beautiful, honest, and resonates so deeply. This led us into a conversation about cultivating work that makes a difference and also getting off the computer to explore, play, and breathe fresh air.
“If you don’t have what’s going on inside figured out, it doesn’t matter how much you spend on copy. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend on your brand design, it’s not going to work. Nobody told me that.” (Emma Natter)
On Creativity, Magic, and Soul Work
Emma talked about finding unity vs. balance and how taking time to do things that feed our souls will help us show up for our work in an even better way. She believes every person has their thing and The Heart Story helps them figure it out. The magic in everyday life shows up for Emma in conversations, which feels so perfect since her heart story and this podcast are all about conversations!
