What Is Alignment?
The term “alignment” is used often, but do you really know what it means? I invite you to take a moment to consider your definition and what alignment means to you.
For me, alignment is a sense of unity or connection. When I’m in alignment, I feel as though all the parts of me are working together. When I feel a strong connection with another person, I will say that we’re in alignment. I’ll also use alignment to describe how I feel about a particular idea or project.
How Can You Recognize Alignment In Your Life?
There’s a few ways you might notice alignment in your life:
In your body. Feel-good sensations, like a little tingle, happy goosebumps, or feelings of warmth or joy.
In your mood. The chatter of your mind might be elevated, less worried, more decisive in a positive way.
In the signs around you. Seeing aligned numbers, bluebirds, or whatever unique signs are meaningful to you. When you feel a spark, download, ping, or zing, that is alignment.
4 Simple Ways to Find Alignment in Life
01. Be Where You Are.
Bring your awareness to the present moment. Focus on one thing. Quiet the outside world. When you are in the present moment, not worrying about the past, or planning for the future, alignment is around the corner.
02. Dive Into Appreciation.
Abraham Hicks, Oprah Winfrey, and many other teachers are huge fans of gratitude and there’s a good reason. When you dive into appreciation, your concerns and complaints take the backburner, even for a moment. Journal. Meditate. Write a letter. Call a friend. Think about appreciation like a faucet that you can turn on when you want to activate it.
03. Experience the Elements.
Do something small to experience earth, water, fire, or air. Walk outside or hold a crystal. Take a bath or drink some water. Strike a match or light a candle. Diffuse essential oils or watch the wind dance through the trees. These practices are a great way to find alignment because they connect you to nature.
04. Set the Intention.
This might feel simple, but setting the intention to be in alignment will help you find alignment. When you set the intention, you will take actions that support your alignment, whether that’s resting when you need to or taking on an exciting new project.
How to Avoid the Alignment Trap
We aren’t meant to be in the high-flying, super positive version of alignment all the time. If you feel bad, sad, or ashamed for not being in alignment, know that is okay! Practice compassion and allow yourself to be where you are.
In a past episode called Finding Alignment with Yourself, I talked about the Alignment Trap. It’s worth revisiting today…
The Alignment Trap is when you get stuck feeling like you have to have to be in alignment before taking any action. When you fall into the alignment trap, the pursuit of alignment becomes a method of procrastination. This is totally normal and there’s a way to avoid it or get unstuck if this sounds familiar.
Find alignment right where you are. Instead of thinking you have to make huge changes or improvements to your life, find alignment in simple practices like the ones outlines above.
Listening to Your Intuition Can Help You Find Alignment
When you listen to your intuition and act on what you receive, you are in alignment! And getting into alignment makes it easier to listen to your intuition because there’s less resistance. These two practices really support each other. The good news is that you can start in small, gentle ways.
