Intuitive Decision Making: Overcoming Fear and Navigating the Tug-of-War Within
Ever felt stuck between your mind and your intuition? In this episode, I’m sharing how to navigate the tug-of-war between your thoughts and your inner wisdom. From unraveling emotional blocks to soothing the mind, these strategies will help you overcome fear and find peace in the process.
This Episode Is Inspired By A Question From My DMs
Here’s the message,
“Hey, Kaileen! I hope it’s okay to ask you an inner voice question… Have you ever felt like your inner voice is calling you toward something but your mind is pulling you in a completely different direction? I feel like tug-o-war at the moment – any tips? Or rather, any good inner voice questions to ask about the whole thing? My MIND is reallllyyyyy not vibing with my inner voice!”
First, I want to begin by saying, yes, of course it’s okay to ask! My DMs are open for us to connect. If you want to connect with me on Instagram, I’m @kaileenelise. Questions like these are a real joy for me to answer. Helping women access their inner wisdom is why I’m doing this work.
And yes, I’ve totally felt this way. It is very common to feel pulled in opposite directions by your mind and your inner voice. It’s intense and uncomfortable. You’re not alone!
Why Is There Conflict Between Inner Voice And The Mind?
There are a handful of reasons why you might feel torn between listening to your intuition and your mind:
Often, the mind is not convinced that what the inner voice wants is best.
The mind might be afraid of making the wrong choice or making a mistake in the process.
Another possibility is that there’s an emotional block, story, thought pattern, or energetic resistance in the way.
The last option is what Bella Lively calls “emotional bean bags” and Eckhart Tolle refers to as the emotional pain body. Whatever you call it, when these blocks are in the way, it isn’t even your mind that isn’t vibing with the inner voice’s guidance, it’s the beanbag! Once you release it, you will feel a lot more clarity and peace on the topic.
Emotional Release Can Resolve Inner Conflict
You can override the inner voice and do what the mind wants to do. You can override the mind and do what the inner voice wants. Or you can release the emotional energy that’s blocking you, which will really help stop the tug-of-war altogether.
The best way to begin the journey of “releasing beanbags” is to work with a coach or facilitator. This is something I guide clients through in an hour-long session, which you can book here.
4 Ways To Soothe And Support Your Mind
Bouncing between your mind and inner voice is so exhausting! And if you’re here, you probably already know that going against intuition really doesn’t feel good.
But when your intuition is asking you to do something bold, different, or unknown, that can feel very intimidating and scary to your mind… just remember, that’s totally normal!
Try these strategies the next time your mind needs soothing and support:
Set a deadline. It can be 5 minutes, 30 days, or whatever amount of time feels right for you. Having a deadline can really help the mind release its grip.
Ask for signs. Ask the Universe and your inner voice for signs to show you that you’re on the right path. You can even ask to “make this decision so obvious” that you can’t miss what’s right for you. As you start to receive signs, celebrate them and let yourself feel good.
Pull a card. Pulling an oracle card or tarot card is similar to asking for signs, but it is a bit more active because you receive wisdom from the card once you turn it over. Use this practice as a way to connect to your inner voice and receive guidance on what to do.
Practice self-care for the mind. Do something the mind loves. For me, it’s organizing a space in my home, bringing order to an area of my life, or even painting my nails. These are activities my mind loves and gets a lot of satisfaction in, which is very soothing.
4 Questions To Ask Your Intuition When You’re At A Crossroads:
Grab your journal and get ready to write from the deep wisdom within. If you aren’t a journaler, you can also ponder these prompts on a walk or in meditation.
“Why is my mind having such a hard time?”
“What can I do to soothe and support my mind?”
“Do I need to make a decision right now?”
“Instead of constantly thinking about this topic, what can I do with my mind?”
Always remember to ask follow-up questions when the mind has resistance to a response from the inner voice. If you receive “All is well,” and that isn’t satisfying to the mind, then exhale and ask your intuition the direct objections you’re mind is raising.
You Can Overcome Fear And Make Intuitive Decisions
When your mind and inner voice seem to be at odds, use that as a clue to pause and check-in.
Release any emotions that feel sticky or stuck in the way. Then practice some self-care for the mind. Be gentle and curious. Give yourself a deadline and ask for signs.
Get more information from the inner voice by asking the questions above, or ask, “What do I need to help soothe the mind on this topic?”
I hope this has given you a few ways to overcome any inner tug-of-wars that you’ve been feeling… and at least given you a reminder that you’re definitely not alone. We have all felt that way!
