Reverb 10.17 - Prompt from December 17, 2010 (Tara Weaver)

Lesson Learned. What was the best thing you learned about yourself in this past year? And how will you apply that lesson going forward?

One thing I learned this year is that less might actually be more. In theory this concept has always made sense, but it's something I still strive towards putting into practice.

I have a tendency to want more. To make more, be more, do more. My aspirations and intentions are often larger than the clear space in my calendar. I want to be all things to all people. When a juicy opportunity crops up or a fresh idea pops to the front of my mind, I leap without looking. I figure I'll make room somehow, creating free time out of thin air.

I've learned that pushing to do more has it's place in my life. I function well on deadlines (yes, I'm actually trying to respond to all remaining Reverb 10 prompts in a single afternoon) and derive a thrill from accomplishing more with less.

Yet, this strategy is not sustainable and does not cultivate an abundant life. A person needs room to dream, live and breathe. In 2011, I plan to clear some space and let a few sparkly ideas go with the wind, in order to make room for serendipity.
