Self-Mothering Soul-Care: Guided Meditation + Journal Prompts

Take a moment for yourself with this encouraging episode! Listen and learn about the practice of self-mothering, then enjoy a guided meditation and journaling session to give yourself the care you crave.

Whether you’re a mom or not, no matter what Mother’s Day means to you, this episode is a little gift from me to you. A moment to connect within and give some nourishing love to yourself.

What is Self-Mothering?

First, let me ask, are you familiar with the term reparenting?

The first time I heard it, I felt immediate shame as a mother. I wondered, will my children want to go back through time and redo the choices I’m making, the things I’m saying, and everything I’m doing while parenting them!?

Giving yourself what you didn’t receive as a child can be very supportive, useful, and healing.

But, the term ‘reparenting’ makes me feel so bad as a parent! Maybe it’s just semantics, but if you relate, you’ll prefer self-mothering over reparenting.

Self-mothering is what it sounds like – giving yourself the motherly love and support we all deserve. It’s less about what happened in the past and more about the care you give yourself in the present moment.

I’ve talked about self-mothering on Celebrate Cultivate in past episodes:

If you struggle with your role as a mother, have a difficult relationship with your mother, or want to take better care of yourself, these episodes are filled with encouragement and tips!

A Year of Calm, A Year for You

You don’t need to download another self-help audiobook. You need to listen to your intuition.

Imagine how it’d feel to slow down, breathe, and reconnect to the peace within you.

I created A Year of Calm to take you from feeling blocked and broken to being centered and connected.

Guided Meditation for Self-Mothering

Set yourself up for meditation and journaling by making a cozy nest in bed or drawing a nice, warm bath. (Treat yourself to my favorite bath salts from Flewd – they’re amazing!!) Or listen to the meditation wherever you are right now, on a walk, dropping kids off at school, whatever.

Self-Mothering Journal Prompts

Take a moment to journal on these prompts or reflect on them throughout the day:

  • Ask your physical body, what does it need? What does it want? What does it crave? What does it want you to know?

  • Ask your emotional body, how do you feel? How do you want to feel? What feelings are there that are ready to be felt? What are you allowed to feel?

  • Ask your inner voice, what do you want me to see? What do you want me to hear?  What do you want me to know?

  • Ask your whole awareness, what does self-mothering mean to me? What is my soul craving? How can I mother myself? How can my soul take care of me? What else do I need to know?
